Finding Finland’s National Parks

National parks everywhere are popular summer destinations.
In northern Europe, Finland is home to 35 national parks with vast woodland, rivers, fells, lakes and meadows.
Some of Europe’s most remote wilderness, these parks have wildlife ranging from elk, bears, wolverines to thousands of bird species.
This summer, Visit Finland is showcasing the country’s beautiful, wild national parks. Each month, one National Park will be featured on VisitFinland.com, highlighting key treks, trails, features, events and tips.

In July, the website’s focus will be on Syöte National Park, which offers 70km of biking trails, from a leisurely 17km ride to a challenging 36km trek.
Says Metsähallitus’ Veikko Virkkunen, the cycle route designer:
“We have an incredibly diverse terrain. There are fell tops, rivers, lakes, and large pristine old-growth forests of spruce and pine. In addition one can also see broad aapa mires and esker ridges, remnants of the last ice age, all on the same ride.”
If you’re an active hiker, Syöte National Park has hiking routes through wild spruce forests and bogs. Camping sites are located all around the park and private cabins are available for rent in the area.
