Need green San Francisco hotel suggestions? Hotel chain Joie de Vivre says it now has the most certified green hotels in San Francisco.
That’s according to standards set by the certifying body San Francisco Green Business. Some five out of 10 of the hotels to achieve this certification are Joie de Vivre properties. They are Hotel Del Sol; Galleria Park ( below); Hotel Vitale (above); Hotel Carlton and Hotel Drisco.
Says Chip Conley, Joie de Vivre founder and CEO:
“By the end of 2009, roughly one-third of our hotels had achieved official green certification. Achieving formal certification requires a long-term investment of time and resources. These hotels reflect our commitment to environmental conservation, and we are working steadily toward green certification for all of our hotels.”

To achieve green certification, each hotel must complete the program’s in-depth standards, requiring measures in categories from energy conservation to pollution prevention.
Joie de Vivre also has Green Dreams, its own environmental conservation program. Green Dreams focuses on recycling and waste reduction, energy conservation, water conservation, and pollution prevention. Recently, Joie de Vivre also began offering biocompostable Bamboo Lemongrass bath amenities from California-based Lather at its hotels.

The Joie de Vivre hotels are always a treat to stay at, though I didn’t realize they had such a focus on being Green – another reason to take time off and visit San Francisco again!
