Park Plaza Beijing West is making strides to become a greener hotel with its latest environmental initiatives.

Located at the end of Beijing Chang An Boulevard, the 262- room Park Plaza Beijing West is one of the capital’s mid-scale hotels.

The hotel’s environmental program is focused on energy and water conservation, recycling and reducing the use of harmful chemicals. Most recently, Park Plaza Beijing West installed a $1.5 million air freshener system to improve indoor air quality.

As part of the Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific portfolio, the hotel has begun the EarthCheck Program, managed by EC3 Global, an international certifier of sustainable travel and tourism operators.

This program gives the hotel a framework to increase operational efficiencies, maximize the benefit of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and minimize environmental impacts.

Says Peter Schuler, general manager:

“The air freshener system we have introduced is a large investment which will go a long way in ensuring guests have a comfortable stay at our hotel, while minimizing the environmental impact through the energy efficiency of the system. We didn’t just want to stop there. Partnering with EarthCheck is also indicative of the growing emphasis we are placing on achieving sustainable outcomes at our hotel.”

Going Greener In Egypt

FourSeasonResortEgypt257258 Going Greener In Egypt

In the Egyptian resort town of Sharm El Sheik, there is a growing trend towards sustainable tourism, says EarthCheck, a certifier of sustainable travel and tourism operators.

Says Stewart Moore, CEO of EarthCheck:

“We’ve worked with the Four Seasons Resort for a number of years now. During that time, there’s been an increase in the quantity of Egyptian operators undergoing accreditation, and they now range from water parks to small hotels and even Nile cruises. There’s also been an increase in certification schemes though and with that has come the risk of green washing. That’s why at EarthCheck we use a network of highly skilled, independent third party Auditors to ensure that sustainability claims are verified as accurate.”

Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheik , with its 2,000 palm trees and Red Sea views, has committed to minimizing the environmental impact of resort operations.  Working with the EarthCheck program, employees and guests, the resort says it has adopted sustainable practices including water and energy conservation.

The EarthCheck Program is offered by EC3 Global which has 1000+ clients in 60+ countries.   The program addresses environmental problems including climate change, waste reduction and non-renewable resource management.  Benchmarking, certification and performance improvement systems comprise the program which can result in average savings of 30 per cent for energy and waste stream and 20 per cent savings for water consumption.
