Amtrak’s Great Dome Train

Fancy a fall colors USA train journey?
In October and November, vintage Amtrak Great Dome Cardinal railcars will offer two special 2010 round-trips between Chicago and Washington.
Says Brian Rosenwald, Amtrak spokesperson:
“The opportunity to ride Cardinal and view the amazing fall foliage through the scenic West Virginia New River Gorge from the panoramic windows of the Great Dome car is one our passengers will never forget.”
The Dome railcar will operate from Chicago to Washington on October 30 and November 6. Then it will make the return trip from Washington to Chicago on November 5 and November 12.
The refurbished 1955 vintage car has a dome section that runs its full length.
The Cardinal is considered one of the most scenic Amtrak routes (Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois).
Through the gorge, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley, the Cardinal route offers some of the best eastern U.S. foliage.
The Great Dome will also operate from September 23 through October 24 on the Amtrak Adirondack trains north of Albany to Montreal.
Seats in the Great Dome car are not reserved and are available on a first-come, first served basis.
