Walking History

Walking history is an educational and green way to see your destination. Take Headwater’s new guided walking and sightseeing tour to Syria with its “wealth of historic attractions.”
Starting in Damascus, this 11-day guided trip visits Syria’s most popular attractions, including its five UNESCO-listed world heritage sites.
Tour highlights will include the 12th Century crusader castle of Krak des Chevaliers; the mountain village of Maloula and desert city of Palmyra (ab0ve and below). In the countryside, the “gentle walks” in lemon groves and olive terraces give views of beaches, valleys, mountains and sand dunes.

Says Catherine Crone, managing director, Headwater:
“Although less well known that neighboring Jordan, Syria is a destination that lends itself particularly well to exploring on foot. Its rich history means that we explore civilizations past in all the wonderful cities our new tour visits, from Aleppo to Damascus, while time spent enjoying the country’s natural beauty provides a welcome contrast to the bustling cities.”
An active travel company, Headwater features walking, cycling and canoeing independent and guided holidays in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean.
The new Syria tour, which is limited to 12 guests maximum, complements existing Morocco and Jordan itineraries in Headwater’s Africa & Middle East program.
